Sooy family records. [Microfilm of typescript; 1957] p. 39: Nicholas Sooy, born May 4, 1747, A.D. was the son of Joost (Joseph) Jr. and Elizabeth (Smith) Sooy. He resided in Pleasant Mills, Burlington Co., N.J. where he owned large tracts of land; he also owned and managed the Inn there. He was a man of affairs and, during the Revolutionary War of 1776, was a Minute Man and took part in resisting the British raids around the Mullica River.
He married in 1774 a woman of high degree, Sarah Sears born Nov. 28, 1755, who was the daughter of Colonel Paul Sears of Massachusetts, a hero of the Revolution. Nicholas died Dec. 22, 1822, and is buried in the Old Quaker Church Yard by the side of his wife, who died June 7, 1819. Their children: ...
